  • Thread Necro Bans

    Hey folks,

I wanted to start a thread about this as it's getting a bit out of hand and I'm sure a lot of folks are going to wonder why I've handed out some bans today and yesterday. Our Cod of Conduct specifically calls out not responding to a thread where the last post is over 30 days old. After the UI went out a number of players dredged up old threads and started posting in them again. I've handed out a number of 1 day bans for this.

Please do not respond to or comment on a thread if the last post is 30 days or more ago. If you see someone necro-ing a thread, don't jump into that thread. I'll be issuing bans for everyone who participates, even if you're not the first person to respond. Right now I'm handing out 1 day bans in the hopes folks will learn and stop doing this, but if it keeps up the bans will get longer.

If you'd like to comment on a thread that is more than 30 days old please start a new thread, lay out the crux of your discussion, and then provide a link to an older thread so people can read the backstory if they'd like.

So now you’re banning for petty and insignificant shit? Great...

No, he's banning because there are multiple instances of rule breaking. A day ban is a perfectly reasonable punishment for the infractions because it's long enough to communicate that they've done something wrong, but short enough to where if they still want to talk about something, they can make a post a day later while it's still relevant.

The problem is, he’s basically picking and choosing when he’s going to enforce certain rules. To me, there are bigger infractions that happen that are worse than someone commenting on an old thread. It seems recently that anything that hurts his feelings or ego is bannable.

  • #3
Why dont you just autolock those threads ? Doubt many people are aware of this. I wasnt either.

just make threads read-only after inactivity for 30 days.

That certainly would be more customer friendly than bans

This makes total sense. Someone's having a problem so they search the forums to see if there's similar problems with other players. Something I've been told to do in a ticket btw. We make a relevant post and boom we're banned... talk about childless god complex. If you don't want to hear from your player base about issues why not just close the forums and shut down petitions... this idea is almost as much bs as the current state of the games coloring.

I always thought we were supposed to search for previous threads rather than create a slew of new ones.

Yes, you're supposed to search for previous threads. If the thread has lain fallow for more than 30 days though, you're supposed to not violate the stated code of conduct and instead create a new thread. Also, if an old thread answers your question then you don't need to reply to it at all. Also, I'll remind you that personal attacks are a violation of our rules as well.

Sandberg74 , what you're describing would require installing mods on vBulletin as that's not a native feature. Since we're leaving the platform soon and vBulletin mods aren't the most stable thing ever it would likely create far more hassle than it's worth. Honestly I'd like to think the community can follow a simple rule like this. Once we move to Discourse I'll see about automating it though.

They probably can follow a simple rule, when they are aware of the rule. If you think think that people sit and read through, coc and tos for forums ? Nah they dont

Some posts have complete relevance and should be brought back up. Like let's say it's a bug that's been in game forever but it's not on a priority list to fix like a hi getting a massive overhaul. Oh wait that would be pointing out things that don't ever get fixed anyways and we wouldn't want potential customers knowing that.

I already said you can create a new thread and reference an old one. I never said that once a topic is over 30 days old it can never be discussed again. If you're going to criticize a rule, please do me a favor and try reading what I wrote before going on the attack. You're dangerously close to trolling here, xDangerousDLx; I would suggest reigning it in.

Lol if you think that's a personal attack you have very thin skin my friend. Come play in line chat you'll learn the difference between sarcasm and an attack ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It shows how long problems go unfixed, and we can't have that now can we?

        PGJared,

I am a goody-two-shoes rule follower in 99% of cases, and I wasn't aware of this. When I look at the posted Rules of Conduct (here) there is nothing posted about posting on threads more than 30 days old. So I check the Terms of Service (here) and I can't find anything there as well. Could you please tell me where a more accurate version of the expectations of conduct are posted?

It sounds made up to me personally. However, he also referenced it as the cod of conduct, so maybe this fish he is referring to is swimming in a tank at PG headquarters.

TheRedDelilah That's so weird, I didn't find the bullet point in the town hall rules of conduct, but found it in the general discussion rules of conduct, literally the post above this thread by kinnara. Maybe I will be fancy one day and learn how to hyperlink a link within a word, but for now: http://wardragons.pocketgems.com/for...ode-of-conduct

After reading the code of conduct I see no rule stating that being a post that is relevant back to life as a ban able offense. It simply says please don't do it. Just saying

You're going to be suspended/banned for conduct detrimental to PG. They're taking pages out of the Roger Goodell management book.

Strange that it's not duplicated on the other page. I'll make sure it's updated.
